About the project

In January 2020, VTIS GmbH was in charge of a foreign project for a terminal for coal shipment. The customer required a more autonomous and secure port with the help of network-based video surveillance technology.

The whole system had to operate in adverse climatic conditions and needed to be operated by a small number of people. Fail-safety and resilience of the software and hardware were essential.

Implementation

In our company headquarters in Dortmund, the entire order including planning, configuration, site assembly and documentation was prepared for shipping. After installation by outside companies, VTIS carried out the commissioning of the entire plant on site. This included testing the installation in live operation. The scope of services for this project included the following sub-aspects:

Videosystem Mast-Installation
Reliable performance in harsh weather conditions

The challenge

The site of operation is outside the EU and due to the long distance, the entire conception of the project had to be realized on the basis of detailed preliminary planning and a plant layout that was as realistic as possible, without visiting the site.

In addition to a complex, active network infrastructure, the system consists of IP surveillance cameras and other network participants for audiovisual support. In addition, 10 touchscreen-workstations need to be set up at so-called hotspots (loading and transport points). The basic principle behind this system is to make the entire plant unmanned (more autonomous) and at the same time increase safety standards.
